Classic Henry Klein Design Renovation

living room with wood features and mid-century modern furniture

The founder of our firm, Henry Klein, designed this house in 1954. A few years later Henry completed an addition to the residence. The current owners wanted further expansion, maintaining as much of the original design as possible, while bringing the home up-to-date with modern finishes.

The project brought two small additions, kitchen enlargement, enclosure of the carport, and modern improvements throughout the structure. Also included in the project were energy retrofits, making the home more efficient.

“We used HKP architects for a total remodel of a mid-century house we purchased. It was important for us to keep the integrity of the original home, but update it to our needs and lifestyle. HKP did an excellent job of designing the remodel – providing structural expertise, incorporating our ideas, presenting options in the design and the reuse of original materials, suggesting new materials and finishes, and helping us visualize the completed project; and of managing the remodel – managing the contractor, monitoring the budget and timeline, and providing documentation on all decisions. HKP’s experience with ways to make our home more energy efficient was also very important to us. The partner and associate who worked directly on our project were so wonderful to work with – professional, knowledgeable, imaginative, detailed, and delightful. We wouldn’t have the “new-old” home we love without them.”
