5th Annual Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Northwest Region Conference

We sent four representatives from HKP to the fifth annual DBIA Northwest conference this year. Attendees participated in various events around the theme “Leveraging the Possibilities for Design-Build Teams.” Below are a few reflections from our team on their experiences.

Julie Blazek

“Relationships built on mutual trust and respect are the key to Design Excellence. Great to spend time with respected peers and meet new potential partners at this year's DBIA NW conference.”

Brian Poppe

“Our founder, Henry Klein, once told me on a job site that if you want to know how to do something, talk to the people who do it. I appreciated this quick day and a half conference, spending time with the ‘doers,‘ whether it’s from the viewpoint of designers, builders, or owners. An added highlight was having the DBIA’s Executive Director/CEO provide a view of where the organization has been and where it’s going.”

Christine Baldwin

“The 2024 DBIA Northwest Regional Conference was a wonderfully organized event with both interesting and informative sessions on Design-Build. Sessions described how DB provides increased opportunities for MWBE participation and how the trust between the owner, contractor, and architect are intrinsic to the success of the project.

I particularly enjoyed the presentation by Lisa Washington, Executive Director of Design-Build Institute of America, and learning about how Design-Build is utilized throughout the United States and the growth of DB throughout the various regions.”

Austin Miles

“A lot of conferences we attend are ‘AEC’ focused – architects, engineers, and contractors. What I really appreciated from DBIA was the inclusion of the owners. There are many great agencies in the PNW region, and it’s really great to see and hear the owner’s voice and perspective too. We’re always looking for the ‘twofers’ and being able to network with new potential partners and clients was fantastic!”
